Poor Posture

We have all been guilty of poor posture at some point, whether it be performing a duty at work with an inappropriate posture, or slumping in a chair when tired. A forward head posture is a very common postural set that greatly contributes to neck pain and thus poor posture. This postural position occurs when the neck is angled forward positioning the head just in front of both shoulders. This leads to postural problems including the sheer weight of the head putting extra stress on the lower neck.

Degenerative disc issues can be a result of this. Also the many muscles of the upper back become so overworked to keep your head upright, that they can be overly fatigued causing pain. Rounding of the shoulders can often occur with this poor postural positioning which can cause shoulder pain. If you recognise this poor posture description matching yours, there is a good chance you are already experiencing pain. If you have no pain yet you are probably lucky though continuing with this poor posture will lead to pain and perhaps other symptoms in the future.
